Door Measurement

To ensure your new cabinet doors fit perfectly, follow these simple steps to measure your cabinet openings accurately. If you are ordering 1/2" overlay doors, remember to add 1 inch to both the width and height measurements, and leave a 1/8 inch gap for a pair of doors.

Step 1

Measure the Width Open the cabinet door (if there is one) and measure the opening from the inside left edge to the inside right edge of the cabinet frame. If ordering a pair of doors, divide the total width measurement by 2. Subtract 1/8 inch from the total width to leave a gap between the doors (this will give you a 1/16 inch gap per door). Add 1 inch to this measurement if you're ordering 1/2" overlay doors. This will ensure that each door overlaps the cabinet frame by 1/2 inch on all sides.

Step 2

Measure the Height Measure the height of the cabinet opening from the inside top edge to the inside bottom edge of the cabinet frame. Add 1 inch to this measurement if you're ordering 1/2" overlay doors. This will give the necessary overlay at the top and bottom.

Step 3

Write Down Your Measurements Write down both the width and height measurements, remembering to note if you added the 1 inch for overlay doors and subtracted the 1/8 inch gap for pair doors.

Step 4

Optional - Hinge Placement If you're ordering doors with pre-bored hinge holes, measure and mark the location of your existing hinges, noting the distance from the top and bottom edges of the cabinet. Example for 1/2" Overlay Doors with Pair of Doors If your cabinet opening is 20 inches wide and 30 inches high: For pair doors: Divide 20 inches by 2 = 10 inches per door. Subtract 1/8 inch from the total width for the gap, giving you 9 15/16 inches per door. Add 1 inch for overlay = 10 15/16 inches wide per door. Each door should be 10 15/16 inches wide and 31 inches high. This should now account for both the 1/8 inch gap for pairs of doors and the 1/2 inch overlay.
